The FASTag Annual Pass, introduced by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on August 15, 2025, has quickly gained traction among private vehicle owners.

However, motorists should note that the pass is not universally valid across all expressways and highways in the country.

Let’s take a closer look at where the FASTag Annual Pass is applicable and which expressways and highways are excluded from its coverage.

Key Highways and Expressways Excluded from FASTag Annual Pass

  • Yamuna Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, and Meerut Expressway (all in Uttar Pradesh)
  • Samruddhi Mahamarg (Maharashtra)
  • Mumbai–Pune Expressway (MSRDC-managed)
  • Ahmedabad–Vadodara Expressway (state/municipal segments in Gujarat)
  • Atal Setu (Goa)
  • Other state highways or locally managed toll roads

Additionally, the scheme does not cover tolls for commercial vehicles, taxis, or parking fees.

Why These Routes Are Excluded from FASTag Annual Pass

The exclusion stems from jurisdiction differences. Since the FASTag Annual Pass was created for national highways and expressways under central control, it does not extend to state operated roads.

State authorities continue to operate their toll systems independently, which makes the NHAI pass inapplicable on those stretches.

Conclusion

While the FASTag Annual Pass is a cost effective option for frequent travelers on NHAI-managed routes, vehicle owners must remain aware of its limitations on state highways and expressways. Being mindful of these exclusions will help avoid confusion at toll plazas and ensure smoother travel.
