Bengaluru Airport UDF Cut by 45%; New Charge for Arriving Passengers

Flying out of Bengaluru airport will become a little cheaper from September 1. The AERA has reduced the User Development Fee (UDF) charged to passengers leaving the airport.
Lower Fee for Passengers Leaving Bengaluru
The biggest change is the cut in the UDF for departing passengers. Domestic flyers will save ₹250 on the UDF, while international passengers will save ₹503. For domestic passengers, the UDF will come down to ₹300 from ₹550. For international passengers, it will fall to ₹997 from ₹1,500.
The new charges will apply for the 2026-31 tariff period.
New Fee for Passengers Arriving
While departing passengers will pay less, people flying into Bengaluru will now have to pay a new UDF.
The charge will be ₹125 for domestic arrivals and ₹426 for international arrivals.
AERA said airport facilities are used by passengers arriving as well as those leaving. This includes things like aerobridges, travelators and baggage conveyor systems.
New Rules for Airport Projects
AERA has also changed how Bengaluru airport will recover the cost of some of its upcoming projects.
This means passengers and airlines will not have to pay for these projects before they are actually ready.
New Charges for Airlines
The new tariff also changes some charges paid by airlines.
From September 1, domestic aircraft will pay ₹325 per metric tonne for landing, while international aircraft will pay ₹455 per metric tonne.
There will also be charges for some shared airport facilities. International departing passengers will pay $1, while domestic departing passengers will pay ₹75 for these facilities.
Airlines Can Get Landing Fee Benefits
AERA has also allowed a new incentive plan for airlines.
Under the plan, airlines can get lower landing charges if they meet certain conditions. The aim is to encourage airlines to start new international routes and increase flights from Bengaluru.
Cargo airlines can also get benefits for starting new domestic and international freighter services or adding more flights on existing international routes.
What This Means for Passengers
The new system will make the airport charge lower for people flying out of Bengaluru, but passengers arriving at the airport will now have an additional charge.
At the same time, AERA is trying to encourage more airlines to operate from Bengaluru by giving incentives for new routes and additional flights.
