About Bombay Dyeing & Manufacturing Company

Bombay Dyeing & Manufacturing Company is engaged in the business of real estate development, polyester staple fiber, and retail. It was established in 1879 by Nowrosjee Wadia as a small operation of Indian spun cotton yarn dip dyed by hand. In 1961, It entered into an agreement with Tootal Broadhurst Lee. Co. Limited, Manchester, for the technical know-how and use of their patented crease-resistant and minimum-ironing processes. In 1978, the company signed an agreement with Hercofina of the USA for the purchase of equipment and machinery as well as for technology and technical services. It continued its operational growth and installed 2 open-end spinning machines, 3 auto coners, 7 high-speed combers, 1 hot air stenter and some jiggers in the processing house in Mumbai during 1988. In 1998, it introduced two new brands viz Princeton and Forest Hills in Apparel and Tulip and Harmony in the home collection segment. In 2002, the company unveiled 150 new designs in the bed and bath linen and home towel categories. The company launched 'Aroma Rich', its range of fragrant bed linen, in 2010. Archway Investment Company Ltd was amalgamated with the company in 2017.

Business Segments

  • Polyester Staple Fibre (PSF): Under this segment, the company is engaged in manufacturing 100% virgin Polyester Staple Fibre and textile-grade PET Chips. It is one of the 7 producers of PSF in the country, with a market share of ~12%.
  • Textile/ Retail Division: It offers linens, towels, home furnishings, leisure clothing, kid's wear, and other products through its 350+ Exclusive Bombay Dyeing Retail stores and 2000+ MBOs across India.
  • Real Estate Division: The company is engaged in the construction of residential buildings through this segment. As of FY23, the construction of the two towers at Island City Center (ICC), Dadar, is completed, and final snag rectifications are in progress.
Subsidiary As of March 31, 2023, Pt Five Star Textile, Indonesia, is the only subsidiary of the company. It is primarily engaged in the production of yarn, wide fabric, embroidery fabric, etc.
