Transformers and Rectifiers (India) Limited (TARIL) has announced a significant achievement by securing an order worth ₹53.33 crore from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited.
This order marks a pivotal moment for TARIL as it becomes the first Indian private sector company to receive an order for HVDC Converter Transformers.
The order from Power Grid Corporation involves the repair, erection, testing, and commissioning of a 397 MVA HVDC Converter Transformer.
This contract is a domestic one and is expected to be executed by the next financial year. The order does not fall within related party transactions, ensuring it is conducted at arm's length.
This achievement positions TARIL within the exclusive group of global HVDC transformer manufacturers, opening up new opportunities in the HVDC segment.
It also aligns with the Indian government's "Make in India" initiative, providing domestic consumers with an indigenous manufacturer of HVDC transformers.
India's HVDC transformer market is experiencing rapid growth due to several factors. The integration of renewable energy, such as the target of 30 GW offshore wind by 2030, necessitates efficient long-distance transmission, which HVDC technology facilitates.
Additionally, grid modernisation projects like the Green Energy Corridor and Smart Grid Mission are driving demand for HVDC systems to enhance stability and connect unsynchronised AC networks.

India plans to expand its transmission network significantly, with approximately 15,432 km of new transmission lines and 32,250 MW of transfer capacity through HVDC schemes by FY32. There are also growing opportunities for cross-border transmission with regional links, including Bangladesh and proposed Sri Lanka interconnections.
Technological advancements, such as Voltage Source Converter (VSC) technology, are in demand for their benefits, including the use of underground cables and flexible power control. These developments present significant opportunities for TARIL and the broader HVDC transformer market in India.
As of December 4, 2025, at 12:47 PM, Transformers & Rectifiers India share price on NSE was trading at ₹246.65 down by 0.48% from the previous closing price.
The ₹53.33 crore order from Power Grid Corporation marks a significant milestone for Transformers and Rectifiers India, positioning the company as a key player in the HVDC transformer market. This achievement aligns with India's growing demand for advanced transmission solutions and supports the "Make in India" initiative.
