Tata Power has expanded its high-voltage transmission network with the commissioning of two major power corridors in Uttar Pradesh, strengthening grid capacity in the northern region.
The company commissioned two 765 kV extra high voltage transmission lines, the Mainpuri–Bara corridor spanning 380 circuit kilometres and the Mainpuri–Unnao corridor covering 194 circuit kilometres.
Together, the 2 lines form a 574 CKM transmission network designed to support reliable power flow across Uttar Pradesh and the wider northern grid.
The transmission corridors were developed under the South East UP Power Transmission Company Limited project and form part of Tata Power’s expanding national transmission portfolio.
Once operational, the 2 corridors will facilitate the evacuation of over 3,000 MW of thermal power generated within Uttar Pradesh, contributing to improved grid stability and long-term energy security in the state.
Project execution involved large-scale engineering work, including the use of more than 42,000 metric tonnes of tower steel and 6,900 kilometres of conductor stringing.
Construction also required the completion of over 100 major crossings, including railway lines, rivers and existing transmission corridors. The transmission lines pass through forest stretches and require complex on-ground execution.
The project was acquired by Resurgent Power Ventures Pte. Limited, a joint venture led by Tata Power along with ICICI Bank and global investors, as part of the resolution of previously stressed power assets.
Following the commissioning of the 2 corridors, Tata Power now has 5,312 circuit kilometres of transmission lines in operation, with an additional 1,997 circuit kilometres currently under construction.
The expanded network strengthens the company’s role in building and modernising India’s high-voltage transmission infrastructure.
