PIB Fact Check: PM Modi Video on Investment Scheme is Fake

A video that claims Prime Minister Narendra Modi is promoting an investment scheme promising daily returns of ₹1.25 lakh on a ₹21,000 investment is completely fake. The Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) Fact Check unit has confirmed that the video was digitally manipulated using artificial intelligence (AI) or deepfake technology.
PIB Fact Check: No Such Scheme Exists
The PIB shared on social media that neither PM Modi nor the Government of India is linked to any such investment platform. They warned citizens not to believe in such misleading content. The video may look real, but it has been altered using AI tools to create a fake version of the Prime Minister’s speech.
SBI Issues Warning on Deepfakes
In May, the State Bank of India (SBI) also issued a public alert about deepfake scam videos. SBI said these types of videos are spreading on social media, targeting people’s trust in well-known leaders and organisations. Their message: Always verify before investing. Be cautious of any investment advice you didn’t ask for.
What Are Deepfakes?
Deepfakes are AI-generated videos or audio recordings that make it seem like someone said or did something they never actually did. In banking, scammers can use deepfakes to pretend to be bank officers, company heads, or even someone you know.
For example, a deepfake may show a trusted person asking you to confirm a transaction or share your bank details. Because the voice and face look real, people are often tricked into following the fake instructions.
How to Stay Safe?
- Don’t trust videos or messages without verifying their source
- Never share personal banking information online
- Call your bank directly if you get suspicious messages
- Follow only official government and bank websites for updates

Conclusion
As deepfake technology becomes more advanced, it’s important to stay alert and double-check information, especially when it involves money. Scammers are using fake videos to trick people into investing in false schemes. The best protection is awareness and verification.
