Top Gainers and Losers on August 21, 2026: Power Grid, HDFC Life and Kotak Bank Emerged as Top Gainers

NIFTY50 index ended August 21, 2026, above the 24,250 mark, gaining 20.15 points. Power Grid emerged as the top gainer, while Maruti Suzuki India was the top loser.

On August 21, 2026, the NIFTY50 index ended the session with modest gains of 20.15 points or 0.08% at 24,252. After opening higher and retreating from the higher levels in the initial hour of the trade, the index made an intraday low of 24,206.80. However, index recovered from lower levels, but it mostly traded in a range bound manner.  

The advance-decline ratio of the NIFTY50 index remained slight title in favour of advances, with 25 out of the 50 constituent stocks ending higher, while 24 ended in red and 1 remained unchanged.

Top Gainers of August 21, 2026  

Power Grid Corporation of India emerged as the top gainer on August 21, 2026. Its share price gained 2.87% to ₹272.40 per share. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 1,80,24,559 shares.  

HDFC Life Insurance Company share price rose 2.36% to ₹554.80, making it the second-highest gainer on August 21, 2026. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 33,27,625 shares.  

Kotak Mahindra Bank share price which advanced by 1.37% to ₹402.80, placing it third on the list of top gainers. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 1,56,70,073.  

Top Losers of August 21, 2026  

Maruti Suzuki India share price declined 1.77% to ₹13,565 on August 21, 2026, making it the top loser of the session. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 2,24,903 shares.  

Trent share price fell by 1.55% to ₹2,924. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 5,22,170 shares.  

HCL Tech share price ended 1.21% lower on August 21, 2026. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 14,84,015.
