The NIFTY50 index ended its seven-day losing streak on August 20, 2026, as it surged by 153.05 points, or 0.64% to close above 24,200 mark.  

The index opened with a gap-up amid favourable global cues. However, in the first half of the trading session, it traded in a range-bound manner. In the mid-session, the index touched an intraday high of 24,265. Later, it retreated from the day’s high to close at 24,231.85.  

The advance-decline ratio of the NIFTY50 index remained strong, with 39 out of the 50 constituent stocks ending higher.

Top Gainers of August 20, 2026  

Eternal (formerly known as Zomato) emerged as the top gainer on August 20, 2026. Its share price gained 2.48% to ₹327.95 per share. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 3,64,03,815 shares.  

Kotak Mahindra Bank share price rose 1.82% to ₹397.35, making it the second-highest gainer on August 20, 2026. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 89,41,727 shares.  

ITC share price which advanced by 1.72% to ₹271.65, placing it third on the list of top gainers. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 2,80,02,170.  

Top Losers of August 20, 2026  

Tata Consumer Products share price declined 1.10% to ₹1,056.30 on August 20, 2026, making it the top loser of the session. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 16,83,330 shares.  

Hindalco Industries share price fell by 0.88% to ₹1,029.85. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 43,21,373 shares.  

Interglobe Aviation (INDIGO) share price ended 0.54% lower on August 20, 2026. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 3,80,683.

The NIFTY50 index ended its seven-day losing streak by gaining 0.64% on August 20. Eternal, Kotak Bank and ITC emerged as top gainers, while Tata Consumer, Hindalco and Interglobe Aviation were among the top losers.
