The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check unit has issued a strong warning about fraudulent messages and emails falsely claiming to offer LPG dealership opportunities on behalf of government oil companies. These messages are part of a phishing scam designed to mislead citizens into sharing sensitive personal data and paying fake fees.

Fake LPG Dealership Offers Being Circulated

According to PIB Fact Check, scammers are actively circulating emails, SMS messages, and cloned websites that appear to represent Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum.

These fraudulent communications typically:

  • Claim to offer LPG distributorships or agency allotments
  • Use fake documents and imitation government-style websites
  • Request “registration,” “processing,” or “refundable” fees
  • Ask for sensitive KYC details including Aadhaar, PAN, and bank information

PIB has confirmed that these offers are entirely fake and not linked to any official government process.

No Private Agency is Authorised

The fact-check unit has clearly stated that Oil Marketing Companies do not send dealership offers via personal emails, SMS, or WhatsApp . They do not appoint private individuals or agencies for selection, and neither collect money through unofficial channels.

Any communication suggesting otherwise should be treated as fraudulent.

Official Process for LPG Distributorship

Citizens interested in applying for LPG dealerships must use only the government’s official platform: LPG Vitarak Chayan portal

How to Stay Safe from Such Scams

PIB Fact Check advises the public to remain highly cautious and follow basic safety steps:

  • Do not transfer money to unknown or unverified accounts
  • Avoid sharing personal or financial documents in response to unsolicited messages
  • Always verify such claims with the nearest authorised office of OMCs
  • Treat urgent or “limited-time dealership” offers as warning signs

Reporting Suspicious Activity

If you receive such fraudulent messages, report to your local cybercrime police station, or inform PIB Fact Check via WhatsApp at +91 8799711259.

Conclusion

PIB Fact Check has reiterated that fake LPG dealership offers circulating via emails and messages are part of an ongoing scam campaign. Citizens are strongly advised to rely only on official government portals and verify all communications before taking any action.
