The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), has integrated Passport Verification Records (PVR) with DigiLocker. This move expands the range of government-issued documents available in digital form and supports paperless service delivery.
Citizens can securely access, store, and share their PVRs within the DigiLocker ecosystem. The integration aims to simplify verification processes and reduce delays caused by missing physical copies.
Once police verification for a passport is completed, the PVR is automatically issued to the individual’s DigiLocker account. Users do not need to submit any separate request or application for this document.
The record appears under the “Issued Documents” section in DigiLocker, ensuring instant availability. It can be accessed through both the DigiLocker mobile app and the web portal, offering flexibility for users.
DigiLocker is a cloud-based platform under the Digital India programme that enables citizens to store and access government-issued digital records. These include Aadhaar, driving licences, academic certificates, and now Passport Verification Records.
The platform allows secure sharing and instant verification of documents without physical copies. Its architecture ensures authenticity and protection against unauthorised alterations, making it a trusted digital repository.
Individuals can view or download their PVR at any time, which is particularly useful for urgent travel planning or employment background checks. The document is issued directly by government systems and stored securely, ensuring authenticity.
Recruiters, travel facilitators, and agencies frequently request passport verification, and a digital PVR enables quick sharing of official records. Users can share the document electronically with authorised organisations through DigiLocker’s consent-based system, eliminating the need for attested photocopies or repeated uploads.

The integration of Passport Verification Records with DigiLocker marks a significant step toward digital governance and convenience for citizens. It reduces dependency on physical documents and speeds up verification processes across sectors.
By enabling secure access and sharing, the initiative supports paperless and contactless service delivery. This development aligns with the broader goals of the Digital India programme to enhance efficiency and transparency in public services.
