In a big move to support Indian farmers, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will digitally transfer ₹3,200 crore as crop insurance claims under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) on Monday, August 11. The amount will benefit 30 lakh farmers across several states.

The event will be held in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, and will be attended by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Union Minister of State for Agriculture Bhagirath Choudhary, and State Agriculture Minister Kirodi Lal Meena.

State-wise Distribution of Claims Under PM Fasal Bima Yojana

Out of the total ₹3,200 crore:

  • ₹1,156 crore will go to farmers in Madhya Pradesh
  • ₹1,121 crore will benefit 7 lakh farmers in Rajasthan
  • ₹150 crore will be given to Chhattisgarh-based farmers
  • ₹773 crore will go to farmers in other states

This claim settlement is part of the government’s ongoing effort to improve financial support for farmers affected by crop loss due to weather or other risks.

Simplified Claim Settlement System Introduced for PM Fasal Bima Yojana

Under this system, farmers will receive proportional claims based on the central government’s subsidy, even if the state government delays its part of the payment.

To ensure faster settlements, from the Kharif 2025 season onwards:

  • If state governments delay their share, they will pay a 12% penalty
  • If insurance companies delay payouts, farmers will receive a 12% penalty

How Has PM Fasal Bima Yojana Benefitted Farmers?

Since its launch in 2016, the PMFBY has paid out ₹1.83 lakh crore in claims, while farmers have paid only ₹35,864 crore in premiums. This means that farmers have received more than five times the value of their premiums in claim payouts.

Technological upgrades like YES-TECH, WINDS portal, AIDE mobile app, Krishi Rakshak Portal, and helpline 14447 have improved transparency, registration, and weather data accuracy.

Conclusion

The ₹3,200 crore claim transfer under PMFBY is a major step in supporting farmers, especially those hit by crop loss. With the new simplified claim system and tech innovations, the scheme is becoming faster, fairer, and more transparent. This move reflects the government’s commitment to building a secure and sustainable future for India’s farming community.
