The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is planning to introduce WhatsApp-based support services for provident fund members as part of its digital outreach plans, as per news reports.

The service is to help members access basic account-related information without visiting EPFO offices or contacting support centres.

Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said members will be able to begin the process by sending a message to EPFO’s verified WhatsApp number. The account will include a green verification mark for identification.

Access to PF-Related Information

According to the ministry, the platform will provide details related to PF balances, recent transactions, and claim status. Members may also receive notifications regarding pending account actions and compliance requirements.

The service is to support multiple regional languages. EPFO said routine requests would be handled through automated systems, while account information would be provided after verifying the mobile number linked to the member’s Universal Account Number (UAN).

The organisation plans to focus on members with unresolved compliance gaps under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana.

These include incomplete Aadhaar authentication and bank accounts not enabled for Aadhaar-linked Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Grievances Remain High

The announcement comes amid continued complaints related to EPFO services. Government data showed that the Ministry of Labour and Employment accounted for 15.5% of total public grievances recorded during the first 11 months of 2025.

Most complaints were related to provident fund withdrawals, pension settlements, and wage-linked matters. The ministry said the proposed system is expected to improve communication and reduce delays in handling routine member requests.

Pending Cases See Decline

The labour ministry also shared updated figures related to pending litigation involving EPFO matters. As of April 1, 2026, total pending cases stood at 27,639, compared with 31,036 cases recorded a year earlier.

Under the Nidhi Aapke Nikat disposal programme, pending consumer court cases declined from 4,936 in April 2024 to 2,646 by March 2026. Cases pending for more than 10 years also fell from 8,539 to 4,665.

Separately, the ministry launched upgraded versions of the Shram Suvidha and Samadhan portals in May 2026 to digitise labour compliance filings and grievance handling processes.
