HDFC Defence Fund Adds Cochin Shipyard and INDO-MIM, Increases Stake in HAL, Mazagon in July 2026

HDFC Defence Fund added two stocks and increased holdings in HAL, Mazagon Dock and five others as its portfolio rose to 24 stocks.

HDFC Defence Fund added Cochin Shipyard and INDO-MIM to its portfolio in July 2026. It also raised its holdings in HALMazagon Dock ShipbuildersBharat ElectronicsTata MotorsIdeaforge TechnologyBharat Forge and Bosch, according to The Economic Times report citing the monthly portfolio disclosed by ACE MF. 

The fund bought 3 lakh shares of Cochin Shipyard, valued at around ₹42 crore, and nearly 3.30 lakh shares of INDO-MIM worth about ₹25 crore. The number of stocks in the portfolio increased to 24 in July 2026 from 22 in June 2026. 

HDFC Defence Fund Holdings in HAL and Mazagon Dock 

The fund added around 1.25 lakh HAL shares during the month. Its total holding stood at 28.50 lakh shares in July 2026, compared with 27.25 lakh shares in June 2026. 

Mazagon Dock saw an addition of nearly 2.10 lakh shares. The fund held 15 lakh shares at the end of July, up from 12.89 lakh shares in the previous month. 

Bharat Electronics recorded the largest increase among the other stocks. The fund added 25 lakh shares, taking its holding to 4.05 crore shares from 3.80 crore shares. 

Other Additions and Sales 

The fund also bought nearly 10 lakh Tata Motors shares, taking its total holding to 21 lakh shares. It added 8.96 lakh shares of Ideaforge Technology, 66,532 shares of Bharat Forge and 4,776 shares of Bosch. 

On the other side, holdings in AequsCyient DLM and Power Mech Projects were reduced. The fund sold 35 lakh Aequs shares, leaving 5 lakh shares in the portfolio against 40 lakh in June. 

It also sold 3.53 lakh shares of Cyient DLM and 4,025 shares of Power Mech Projects. 

Portfolio Allocation 

The fund's exposure was unchanged in 12 stocks, including BEMLEicher MotorsCentum ElectronicsPremier ExplosivesAstra Microwave ProductsSolar IndustriesDiffusion EngineersMTAR TechnologiesBharat DynamicsData Patterns (India)Sedemac Mechatronics and JNK India. 

Bharat Forge had the largest NAV allocation at 14.82%, followed by Bharat Electronics at 14.67% and HAL at 12.37%. 

HDFC Defence Fund AUM Details 

The fund had an AUM of ₹10,709 crore as of July 31, 2026. Capital goods accounted for 50.64%, automobiles and ancillaries 22.77% and electricals 13.84%.

Conclusion  

The fund made changes across its July portfolio, adding Cochin Shipyard and INDO-MIM while increasing exposure to several existing holdings. It also reduced three positions.
