Global networking equipment maker TP-Link is preparing a major expansion into India’s manufacturing ecosystem with plans to set up its largest production facility in the country. The company aims to strengthen its presence in one of its fastest-growing markets through an investment exceeding ₹100 crore over the next 5 years.
According to The Economic Times, TP-Link has initiated talks with three state governments to finalise the site for the upcoming facility, which will form a key part of its long-term expansion strategy. The new unit will initially serve India’s domestic demand for around 2 years before exporting to West Asia, Africa, and Turkey.
“The company is currently assessing potential locations and awaiting necessary approvals,” said Bijoy Alaylo, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of TP-Link India, as per the news reports.
TP-Link already operates factories in Brazil and Vietnam, and the Indian facility will become its third major global production base. Once the plant becomes operational, the company plans to handle manufacturing fully in-house, further localising its supply chain.
Currently, 92% of TP-Link’s products sold in India are made locally through contract manufacturers. The company aims to increase this figure to 96–97% within the next 3 years.
TP-Link expects its Indian operations to soon rival those in the United States, which is currently its largest market. The firm is also diversifying into enterprise networking solutions, a segment growing at double-digit rates quarterly.
Through collaborations with local partners, TP-Link is developing AI-driven enterprise technologies, including automatic number plate recognition and people-counting systems, designed for smart infrastructure and corporate security.
Founded in 1996 in Shenzhen, China, TP-Link underwent a global restructuring in 2022, separating TP-Link Corporation Group from TP-Link Technologies China. The restructuring, completed in May 2024, established dual headquarters, with TP-Link India operating under the company’s US-based arm while the Chinese entity focuses solely on domestic operations.

TP-Link’s decision to invest in a new Indian factory underscores its confidence in the country’s manufacturing potential and its strategic role in the company’s global supply chain evolution.
