Tata Advanced Systems and Spanish firm Indra Deliver India's First Indigenous 3D Naval Radar

Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), in partnership with Spanish defence firm Indra, has delivered a 3D Air Surveillance Radar for the Indian Navy, as per the news reports. The system, called Lanza-N, has been installed and commissioned on a naval warship, making it the first such radar produced and integrated in India.
Sea Trials and Integration
The radar underwent a series of sea trials before deployment. These trials tested the system’s ability to track different naval and aerial platforms with varying radar cross-sections. Following the trials, the radar was integrated with the ship’s systems and declared operational.
Facility for Production
To support current and future projects, TASL has established a radar assembly, integration, and testing facility in Karnataka. The facility is intended to accelerate production timelines and provide a base for further indigenous assembly and integration.
Capabilities of Lanza-N
The Lanza-N is a long-range, three-dimensional tactical surveillance radar. It can detect and monitor both air and surface targets, including drones, supersonic fighter aircraft, anti-radiation missiles, and other naval threats. The system has been developed for use across multiple types of naval vessels.
Industrial Collaboration
Alongside radar delivery, the TASL–Indra collaboration has led to the establishment of a radar production unit in Bengaluru. This unit is for supporting local manufacturing requirements, servicing needs, and faster production for the Indian Navy.
