Mukesh Ambani Continues to Draw ₹0 Salary from Reliance for 5th Consecutive Year

Mukesh Ambani, chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), has opted to forgo his salary for the fifth consecutive year in FY25. Despite heading India’s most valuable company, Ambani retains his stance against receiving compensation amidst continued business stability and family earnings.
Ambani's Continued Zero-Salary Stance Reflects Pay Moderation
As per RIL’s latest annual report, Mukesh Ambani drew ₹0 in salary, allowance, or commission for FY25, maintaining the decision taken during the COVID-19 pandemic. Between FY09 and FY20, his pay had voluntarily been capped at ₹15 crore. This marks the 5th straight financial year where the billionaire has refused remuneration, despite occupying a top leadership role in RIL.
Ambani Family's Compensation through Dividends and Board Fees
Though Mukesh Ambani’s salary stands at ₹0, the family’s financial benefits remain robust. Holding a 50.33% stake in Reliance, the Ambani family earned ₹3,322.7 crore in dividends for FY24, thanks to a ₹10 per share dividend on 332.27 crore shares. Ambani’s children, Isha Ambani Piramal, Akash Ambani, and Anant Ambani, appointed as non-executive directors in October 2023, each received a total of ₹2.31 crore, comprising ₹0.06 crore in sitting fees and ₹2.25 crore in commission.

Other Executive Compensation Remains Steady
The compensation structure for other key executives remained in line with previous years. Nikhil R. Meswani and Hital R. Meswani received ₹25 crore each, including ₹7.28 crore in salary and perquisites and ₹17.28 crore in commission. P. M. S. Prasad earned ₹19.96 crore, with ₹19.37 crore allocated to salary and other benefits.
Former Board Member Nita Ambani’s Final Remuneration
Nita Ambani, who stepped down from the board in August 2023, received ₹0.02 crore as sitting fee and ₹0.97 crore as commission for FY24. She is not listed in FY25’s remuneration disclosures.
Conclusion
Mukesh Ambani’s continued refusal of a salary underscores his commitment to pay moderation while Reliance Industries remains profitable. With massive dividend payouts and growing family roles in the company, the Ambani family continues to benefit financially despite the chairman drawing no personal compensation.
