European broadband equipment maker GX Group has partnered with US chip company Qualcomm to develop Wi-Fi 7 routers that will be manufactured in India as per PTI reports. The company announced the collaboration on Wednesday.

Launch at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona

The new broadband platform was unveiled by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia at the Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona, Spain.

The annual event brings together telecom equipment makers, chip companies, and network operators from across the world.

Manufacturing Under Telecom PLI Scheme

GX Group said the routers will be designed in India and produced locally. The company is among the firms selected under the government’s telecom production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme.

The scheme was introduced to encourage domestic manufacturing of telecom and networking equipment and reduce reliance on imports. Companies participating in the programme receive incentives linked to incremental production.

Features of the Wi-Fi 7 Platform

The new platform is based on Wi-Fi 7, the latest generation of wireless networking technology. Compared with earlier Wi-Fi standards, Wi-Fi 7 is to handle higher speeds and a larger number of connected devices.

The routers support wider channel bandwidth and multi-link operation, allowing devices to use multiple frequency bands simultaneously.

The technology is expected to support applications that require large amounts of data and stable connectivity, including 8K video streaming, cloud gaming, immersive augmented and virtual reality services, and connected device networks.

Role of the 6 GHz Spectrum Band

GX Group’s Global Account Sales Director Sambit Swain said India’s decision to open the lower 6 GHz spectrum band for wireless use is likely to support the development of advanced broadband services.

According to the company, access to additional spectrum allows networking equipment to operate more efficiently and handle higher data traffic across broadband networks.

Conclusion

Under the partnership, GX Group will produce Wi-Fi 7 routers in India using Qualcomm’s wireless chip technology. The devices are expected to support growing demand for faster and more stable broadband connections.
