As India prepares to celebrate the 79th Independence Day this week, both stock markets and banks will observe scheduled holidays, resulting in a long weekend for many. It is important for traders and investors to note the closures to plan their transactions accordingly.

Will the Stock Market Be Open on Aug 15 2025?

The BSE and NSE will remain closed on August 15, 2025, in observance of Independence Day.

Trading in equity derivatives, securities lending and borrowing (SLB), currency derivatives, and electronic gold receipts (EGR) will also be suspended for the day.

According to the NSE holiday calendar, August has only 2 scheduled market holidays: August 15 for Independence Day and August 27 for Ganesh Chaturthi.

Are Banks Closed on 15th August 2025?

Banks across India will also remain closed on August 15, 2025, to mark Independence Day. Customers should plan ahead as the extended holiday period, combined with weekend closures, may impact banking transactions.

Will Banks Be Open on 16th August 2025?

While August 16, 2025, falls on a Saturday, banks will remain closed in several states including Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and others on account of Janmashtami/Krishna Jayanthi celebrations.

However, banks in states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, West Bengal, New Delhi, and Goa will be open as it is considered a working Saturday in these regions.
