The Uttar Pradesh government is encouraging dairy entrepreneurship through the Mini Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana, a scheme launched under the Nand Baba Milk Mission. The initiative provides financial assistance to eligible farmers and entrepreneurs who want to establish small dairy units with indigenous cow breeds.
With a subsidy of up to ₹11.80 lakh, the scheme aims to boost milk production, promote native cattle breeds, and create additional income opportunities for rural households.
Under the scheme, the cost of setting up a 10-cow dairy unit has been fixed at ₹23.60 lakh. The state government will bear 50% of the project cost, providing a maximum subsidy of ₹11.80 lakh.
Beneficiaries must contribute 15% of the project cost from their own resources, while the remaining 35% can be financed through a bank loan.
The subsidy will be credited directly to the beneficiary's bank account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system in two phases. The first instalment will be released after the dairy infrastructure is completed, while the second instalment will be transferred after the purchase of the cows.
The scheme is applicable only to indigenous cattle breeds such as Sahiwal, Gir, and Tharparkar. The animals should preferably be purchased from their native breeding regions and must be in their first or second lactation, having calved within the previous 45 days. Ear-tagging and insurance of all cattle are mandatory.
Applicants should have at least three years of experience in rearing cows or buffaloes, certified by the Chief Veterinary Officer. They must also have access to 0.20 acres of land for dairy infrastructure and 0.80 acres for fodder cultivation through ownership, inheritance, or a registered long-term lease.
Farmers who have already availed benefits under schemes such as the Kamdhenu Scheme, Mini/Micro Kamdhenu Scheme, Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana, or the Chief Minister Swadeshi Gau-Samvardhan Yojana are not eligible.
Applications will eventually be accepted through an online portal. Until then, eligible applicants can submit offline applications to the offices of the Chief Development Officer or Chief Veterinary Officer in their respective districts. If applications exceed the available quota, beneficiaries will be selected through an electronic lottery.
