Approximately 94.66% of applications for Maharashtra's Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana (Ladki Behen Yojana) have been approved. Out of 11,270,261 total applications received on the portal, 10,669,139 received approval, signalling strong initial processing efficiency.
Approved by the Maharashtra government on June 28, 2024, the Ladki Behen Yojana aims to strengthen women’s financial independence while improving health, nutrition, and their role in household decision-making. The scheme offers ₹1,500 per month via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to eligible women aged 21 to 65 years from families with an annual income of up to ₹2.5 lakh.
Beneficiaries include married, widowed, divorced, abandoned, and destitute women, along with one unmarried woman per family, provided they are Maharashtra residents with Aadhaar-linked bank accounts.
Despite the high approval rate, post-disbursement checks revealed gaps in beneficiary verification. By August 2025, authorities identified cases where 12,431 men had wrongly received benefits, while around 26 lakh applications were flagged as ineligible. These findings prompted the government to strengthen monitoring mechanisms.
To address misuse and ensure targeted delivery, the state introduced mandatory e-KYC requirements, with a deadline set for December 31, 2025. In addition, on-ground verifications were initiated to filter out ineligible beneficiaries and protect public funds.

The financial commitment to the scheme has been substantial. By March 2025, the government had allocated ₹36,000 crore, of which ₹33,232 crore was disbursed across multiple instalments. Beneficiary coverage expanded from 2.34 crore women by late 2024 to 2.53 crore women, underscoring the programme’s growing reach.
The near-95% approval rate marks a major achievement for the Ladki Behen Yojana, highlighting efficient execution at scale. While challenges related to verification and misuse have surfaced, ongoing corrective measures are expected to strengthen the scheme further, ensuring sustained economic support for women and their families across Maharashtra.
