In line with the Government of India’s vision of ‘Sahkar se Samriddhi’, the Ministry of Cooperation has actively worked to strengthen the cooperative sector while promoting inclusive, citizen-centric mobility solutions.
Reflecting this vision, Bharat Taxi was established on 6 June 2025 under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002, by eight national-level institutions working in the cooperative domain.
Bharat Taxi operates as a multi-State cooperative society, with drivers and vehicle owners participating as members and stakeholders. This structure enables collective ownership and decision-making, ensuring that drivers are not just service providers but active participants in the governance of the platform.
The society is overseen by a Board of Directors elected by its members, including two driver representatives (“Sarthis”) to ensure that the voices of those on the road are directly heard at the policy-making level.
Unlike commission-based aggregator models, Bharat Taxi empowers drivers to retain their full earnings while also benefiting from ownership. The platform establishes transparent fare structures, considering operational costs, distance traveled, and market conditions, with periodic reviews communicated to all members. No commission is charged, ensuring that drivers maximise their income. Additionally, driver welfare initiatives provide fair income opportunities, social security benefits, and dignified working conditions.
Bharat Taxi leverages digital infrastructure for ride booking, vehicle tracking, digital payments, and customer support, making mobility seamless for users. The platform is interoperable with the ONDC network, allowing its services to be integrated with other mobility demand platforms such as DigiHaat, Bob Rides, and OneTicket. Partnerships with fintech providers further facilitate digital payments, banking, and insurance services, strengthening both transparency and driver welfare.
Currently operational in Delhi NCR, including Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad, and in Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Somnath, and Dwarka in Gujarat, Bharat Taxi aims to expand to Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, reaching tehsil-level towns within the next three years. This phased expansion will extend affordable, cooperative-based mobility services to a wider population, reinforcing the mission of inclusive, citizen-centric transport.
