The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas has dismissed widespread reports claiming changes in LPG refill booking timelines, calling them “false and misleading.” The clarification comes after social media posts and some reports suggested revised waiting periods for different categories of LPG consumers, sparking confusion and concern among households.
In an official statement, the Ministry clarified that no revisions have been made to LPG refill booking timelines. Viral claims suggesting new waiting periods (such as 45 days for PMUY beneficiaries, 25 days for single-cylinder users, and 35 days for double-cylinder users) have been categorically denied.
The government reiterated that the existing rules remain in force. Currently, LPG refill booking timelines stand at 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural areas, regardless of the type of connection.
The clarification aims to counter misinformation that had triggered uncertainty among consumers, especially those dependent on subsidised LPG schemes.
Addressing concerns around supply, the Ministry assured that there is no shortage of LPG in the country. It emphasised that inventories remain sufficient, with domestic production also being ramped up at refineries.
As per news reports, all refineries are operating at high capacity with adequate crude availability. The government also confirmed sufficient stocks of petrol and diesel, indicating overall stability in the fuel supply chain despite global uncertainties.
Consumers have been specifically advised not to engage in panic booking, as it could disrupt supply distribution unnecessarily.
To prevent misuse and ensure smooth distribution, authorities have intensified monitoring efforts. Control rooms and district-level committees have been activated across multiple states to track supply conditions.
Enforcement agencies, along with oil marketing companies, have conducted over 1,500 surprise inspections to curb illegal activities such as LPG hoarding and black marketing. Raids are ongoing in areas where suspicious activities have been reported.
