LPG refill bookings in India have declined to about 77 lakh from nearly 88.8 lakh recorded earlier, indicating that panic-driven demand may be easing.
The government has stated that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel or cooking gas in the country despite concerns related to the West Asia conflict. Authorities have also highlighted increased use of online booking platforms for LPG refills following awareness campaigns by oil marketing companies.
Recent data from the government shows that LPG refill bookings fell to approximately 77 lakh, compared with around 88.8 lakh earlier in the week. The decline suggests that consumers may be returning to normal purchase behaviour after a period of heightened demand.
Officials indicated that the earlier spike in bookings was largely driven by precautionary buying amid concerns about global energy supply disruptions.
The share of digital LPG bookings has risen in recent days. Online bookings currently account for about 87 per cent of total LPG refill requests, compared with around 84 per cent previously.
Authorities attribute the rise to initiatives by public sector oil marketing companies aimed at encouraging consumers to use digital platforms instead of visiting LPG distributorships in person.
Government updates indicate that fuel availability across the country remains stable. Domestic refineries are operating at high capacity and maintaining sufficient crude oil inventories to support production.
Officials have stated that India remains largely self-sufficient in the production of petrol and diesel required to meet domestic demand.
State governments and enforcement agencies have been taking measures to prevent hoarding and black-marketing of fuels, including LPG cylinders. Inspections and raids have been conducted in several states to ensure compliance with supply regulations.
Authorities have also carried out surprise checks at LPG distributorships to ensure that supplies reach consumers without disruption, as per The Economic Times report.
The government has said that households and essential services such as hospitals and educational institutions continue to receive priority in fuel distribution. Commercial LPG cylinders have also been made available to state authorities for regulated distribution where required.
In addition, supply of natural gas to certain industrial and commercial users has been moderated in order to maintain adequate availability for priority sectors.
Several administrative steps have been introduced to maintain orderly distribution of LPG. Domestic production from refineries has been increased, and booking intervals have been rationalised to support equitable access for consumers.
Authorities have also encouraged households with piped natural gas (PNG) connections to transition away from domestic LPG cylinders where possible.

The recent decline in LPG refill bookings indicates that earlier concerns about fuel availability may be easing. Government agencies continue to monitor supply conditions while promoting digital bookings and enforcement measures to maintain orderly distribution. Officials have advised consumers to avoid unnecessary purchases and rely on established booking systems, noting that fuel supplies remain adequate for households and essential sectors.
