The Karnataka government has cleared the way for a major leap in science and technology by approving the development of a dedicated Quantum City (QCity) in Bengaluru. State Science and Technology Minister NS Boseraju confirmed that 6.17 acres of land has been allocated in Hesaraghatta, with the goal of making Karnataka a global hub for quantum research and innovation.

Laying the Foundation for Quantum Leadership

Announcing the move on X, Minister Boseraju said, "By sanctioning 6.17 acres of land at Hesaraghatta for the establishment of a Quantum City (QCity), we have laid a strong and lasting foundation to position Karnataka as a global hub for quantum research and innovation." The announcement follows the Quantum India Bengaluru conference held last month, which brought together Nobel laureates and global scientists.

The new QCity will house advanced laboratories for quantum research, clusters for hardware and processor development, and a Quantum High-Performance Computing (HPC) Data Centre. Designed to boost collaboration, it will link startups, academic institutions and industry players, shaping Karnataka’s vision to lead the next wave of quantum technology.

Strengthening Quantum Mission Goals

The QCity initiative is part of Karnataka’s larger Quantum Mission, launched in July with a budget of ₹1,000 crore. The programme aims to build a $20 billion quantum economy by 2035, supported by a Quantum Technology Task Force. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has highlighted the mission’s potential to build 1,000-qubit quantum processors and enable applications across healthcare, cybersecurity, defence, and governance.

As per news reports, Minister Boseraju stated, "This is not just an investment in science, but an investment in our youth, our future, and Karnataka’s global leadership."

The project is set to deliver world-class research facilities, nurture innovation, and strengthen India’s role in the global technology landscape. By aligning policy, investment, and infrastructure, the state government is laying the groundwork for breakthroughs that could transform industries and impact the nation’s future economy.
