As per news reports, a high-level discussion between the United States and India gained renewed momentum as US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker met Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in New Delhi.

The meeting focused on translating the strategic roadmap outlined by President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their February engagement into concrete, actionable outcomes across defence, technology, trade and critical supply chains.

Strategic Dialogue Deepens Bilateral Agenda

The US embassy stated that the meeting served as an opportunity to advance cooperation that strengthens “US security, jobs, and competitiveness, while supporting India’s long-term goals.” Hooker conveyed US’s intent to intensify collaboration in defence, energy, technology, space and supply-chain resilience.

The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted that the talks enabled a comprehensive review of the India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, covering trade, investment, civil nuclear developments, critical minerals, emerging technologies, trusted supply chains and progress under the ongoing TRUST initiative.

Both sides also discussed regional and global developments, reaffirming joint support for a free and open Indo-Pacific.

Advancing Trade And Technology Ambitions

The February meeting between the 2 leaders set ambitious targets, including India expanding purchases of American oil, gas and military platforms.

The 2 nations also agreed to work toward a major trade agreement and set a target of $500 billion in annual bilateral trade by 2030.

Accelerating Collaboration Under COMPACT and TRUST

The MEA noted that both sides welcomed steady progress across existing dialogue frameworks and agreed to speed up implementation of the COMPACT agenda, designed to advance cooperation across military partnership, commerce and technology.

The TRUST initiative, launched in February, aims to build secure supply chains, foster innovation and expand collaboration across critical technologies including semiconductors and AI. Both governments committed to continuing discussions to deepen trade ties and strengthen cooperation across strategically important sectors.
