Delhi Plans 'Parivar Pehchan' Law to Introduce Family Cards for Welfare Schemes

The Delhi government is planning to bring a 'Parivar Pehchan' legislation to introduce family cards in the city, as per The Hindustan Times news report. The main aim is to make sure that benefits under government welfare schemes reach the right people.
The legislation will also allow the government to create a database containing information about Delhi residents.
Family Card to Carry Family Details
The government had announced the family card plan in July 2026. The card will have details of family members, including birth and death information.
It will also show whether members of the family are already receiving benefits under any government scheme.
Card to Be Issued in Name of Female Member
Under the proposed system, each family will get one card in the name of the eldest female member of the family.
The card will have a unique number which will be linked to Aadhaar.
System Based on Haryana Model
The Delhi government plans to follow the Parivar Pehchan Patra system used in Haryana.
The proposed Delhi law will provide the legal and administrative framework needed to run the family card system.
Parivar Pehchan Authority May Be Set Up
The government is also considering setting up a Parivar Pehchan Authority to manage the system.
The authority could have a chairperson and a chief executive officer. Officials said it is also likely to be headed by the Chief Minister, who would oversee the implementation and monitoring of the family card system.
