The Delhi Lok Adalat today on May 9, 2026, offers vehicle owners a formal route to settle eligible traffic challans through the Lok Adalat mechanism.

The process is meant for compoundable matters and gives motorists an opportunity to resolve pending challans without going through a lengthy court process.

Delhi Lok Adalat Date and Timing

The National Lok Adalat is being organised in Delhi on May 9, 2026, under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority and the Delhi State Legal Services Authority.

It will be held across Delhi district court complexes, including Tis Hazari, Karkardooma, Patiala House, Rohini, Saket, Dwarka and Rouse Avenue Courts.

The official notice also mentions other forums such as the High Court of Delhi, Debt Recovery Tribunals, Permanent Lok Adalats and consumer dispute commissions for eligible matters.

For traffic challans, the Lok Adalat will cover compoundable challans pending on the Virtual Court portal up to January 31, 2026.

Vehicle owners were allowed to download challan slips from May 4, 2026, from 10:00 am onwards, subject to a daily limit of 50,000 challans and an overall limit of 2 lakh challans.

Delhi Lok Adalat Registration for Traffic Challans

Registration is required for participating in the Delhi Lok Adalat for traffic challan settlement.

Vehicle owners need to visit the Delhi Traffic Police Lok Adalat portal, enter the vehicle number and captcha, and complete OTP verification through the registered mobile number. If the mobile number is not registered with the vehicle details, the portal provides an option to update it before proceeding.

Once OTP verification is completed, pending challans and notices appear on the screen.

The applicant can select the relevant challan or notice, choose a court complex based on available slots, select a suitable time slot and submit the request.

After successful submission, the appointment details and challan copy must be printed and carried to the court.

Delhi Lok Adalat Eligible Traffic Challans

The Lok Adalat is meant for compoundable traffic challans. Common minor traffic offences reported as eligible include riding without a helmet, driving without a seat belt, over speeding, jumping traffic signals and improper parking.

Serious offences such as drunk driving, hit and run cases and major road accident matters are not expected to be taken up under this process.

The official DSLSA notice specifically states that compoundable traffic challans pending till January 31, 2026, will be taken up.

This makes the cut off date important for vehicle owners checking whether their challan can be listed for settlement.

Delhi Lok Adalat Documents to Carry

Vehicle owners need to carry printed copies of the selected challans or notices along with the appointment details. The Delhi Traffic Police instructions mention that the printed documents are required for presentation before the court.

For private vehicles, an individual may print a maximum of five notices and 2 challans. For commercial vehicles, the limit is one notice and one challan.

The instructions also state that commercial vehicle challans or notices can be printed only where the fine amount is less than ₹10,000, and disposal will be allowed only for compoundable challans or notices.

Delhi Lok Adalat Payment and Settlement Process

After reaching the selected court complex at the scheduled time, the matter is placed before the Lok Adalat bench.

The bench reviews the challan and may decide the settlement amount depending on the nature of the offence and applicable rules. If a fine is imposed, it has to be paid as per the process available at the court.

Once the challan is settled, the matter is disposed of through the Lok Adalat process. This helps close eligible pending traffic challans in a structured and legally recognised manner.

Conclusion

The Delhi Lok Adalat today on May 9, 2026, is an important facility for motorists with eligible pending traffic challans. With online registration, token based scheduling and court level settlement, the process is designed to reduce pendency and provide a simpler route for resolving minor traffic violations. Vehicle owners need to ensure that their challans fall within the eligible category and that the required printed documents are carried to the court on the scheduled date.
