Direct Benefit Transfer Reaches ₹2.08 Lakh Crore Across 320 Welfare Schemes

The government has transferred ₹2.08 lakh crore across 320 welfare schemes and subsidies through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) so far in this current fiscal, as per news reports. As per the government, this transfer is done through 245 crore transactions.
Among these, the largest chunk has gone to fertiliser subsidies, followed by the public distribution system (PDS). The numbers also include employment and rural housing, while the LPG subsidy also falls under those schemes.
Fertiliser Subsidy Leads Transfers
Fertiliser subsidy has contributed ₹62,984 crore, and PDS transfers have totalled ₹52,741 crore. MGNREGS follows with ₹15,241 crore.
The PMAY-G was rolled out in April 2016 and has entailed an estimated ₹10,423 crore for DBT transfers. The PAHAL LPG subsidy scheme has accounted for another 4,788 crore.
The remaining ₹56,170 crore has been transferred through other schemes included in the government figures.
Haryana At the Top
As per states, Haryana tops the ranking followed by Uttar Pradesh and Tripura on DBT integration. The data does not disclose the amounts sent separately to these three states.
There are a total of 320 schemes which fall under various ministries. The Higher Education Department operates under 32 schemes, while Social Justice and Empowerment has 22.
Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has 21 schemes followed by Agricultural Research and Education with 14 and the Labour and Employment Ministry with 13 programmes.
245 Crore Transactions Recorded
The transaction count stands at 245 crore, covering the payments made under the 320 schemes and subsidies.
Fertiliser subsidy, PDS and MGNREGS together account for the three largest individual components listed in the data.
