The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by the Union Defence Minister, approved a significant procurement plan worth approximately ₹79,000 crore on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at South Block, New Delhi. This approval covers a wide range of proposals aimed at modernising India’s armed forces, including the Army, Navy, and Air Force, and enhancing operational capabilities across multiple domains.
For the Indian Army, the council accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for three major systems: the Nag Missile System (Tracked) Mk-II (NAMIS), Ground Based Mobile ELINT System (GBMES), and High Mobility Vehicles (HMVs) with Material Handling Crane.
The NAMIS (Tracked) is designed to push the Army’s ability to neutralise enemy combat vehicles, bunkers, and other field fortifications. The GBMES will provide round-the-clock electronic intelligence on enemy emitters, enhancing battlefield awareness and operational decision-making.
Meanwhile, the induction of HMVs will strengthen logistic support across varied and challenging terrains, ensuring effective mobility for troops and equipment.
The DAC also approved several proposals for the Indian Navy. These include the procurement of Landing Platform Docks (LPDs), a 30mm Naval Surface Gun (NSG), Advanced Lightweight Torpedoes (ALWT), Electro Optical Infra-Red Search and Track Systems, and smart ammunition for the 76mm Super Rapid Gun Mount.
LPDs are expected to improve amphibious operations in coordination with the Army and Air Force and support humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, and peacekeeping missions. The ALWT, developed indigenously by DRDO’s Naval Science & Technological Laboratory, is tailored to target conventional, nuclear, and midget submarines.
The 30mm NSG will enhance the Navy and Coast Guard’s operational efficiency in low-intensity maritime threats and anti-piracy operations.
For the Indian Air Force, the DAC approved the Collaborative Long Range Target Saturation/Destruction System (CLRTS/DS) along with other proposals. This system features autonomous capabilities for take-off, landing, navigation, target detection, and payload delivery, reinforcing the Air Force’s precision strike and operational readiness.
