C-DOT has signed an MoU with the Andhra Pradesh government to take part in the Amaravati Quantum Valley (AQV) project. The signing was held during the CII Partnership Summit in Vizag, with IT Minister Nara Lokesh and senior officials from the state’s IT and Communications Department present at the event.
Centre of Excellence Planned in Amaravati
As part of the agreement, C-DOT will set up a Centre of Excellence in Amaravati focused on quantum communication and quantum security systems. The centre will also include work on privacy enhancement technologies (PETs). These areas fall within the targets of the National Quantum Mission, which is to strengthen India’s capabilities in quantum technologies.
Areas of Work and Infrastructure
The proposed centre will handle the development of sub-components required for quantum communication systems, including efforts to make them more cost-effective and easier to deploy. An integrated testbed for quantum security will also be created, offering a controlled environment for testing and validation.
PETs will be developed in line with MeitY’s Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) framework, which sets standards for data handling and privacy.
About the Amaravati Quantum Valley Initiative
Amaravati Quantum Valley is designed as a single location where hardware, software, research, and training activities related to quantum technologies can function together. The project is based in Amaravati and will rely on state-level partnerships and dedicated infrastructure.
C-DOT’s Existing Deployments
C-DOT, the telecom department’s main R&D organisation, has developed quantum security systems already installed at academic institutions, government research labs, and networks handling live traffic. This experience forms the basis for the work it will carry out at the upcoming centre in Amaravati.
The MoU was signed by C-DOT Executive Vice President Dr Pankaj Kumar Dalela, with Nara Lokesh and senior officials including Bhaskar Katamneni from the state’s IT and Communications Department in attendance.
