Bank Holidays in August 2025: RBI Schedule to Know
With August 2025 approaching, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the official bank holiday list for the month. Across India, banks, both public and private, will observe 15 holidays, including national festivals such as Independence Day, Ganesh Chaturthi, and Janmashtami, along with several regional occasions and the regular weekend offs.
Weekend Holidays
As per RBI guidelines, all banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, along with all Sundays. In August, these weekend closures fall on August 3, 9, 10, 17, 23, 24, and 31.
Bank Key National and Regional Holidays
Besides weekend offs, several cultural and religious events will see banks closed in specific states.
- August 8 (Friday): Gangtok (Sikkim) - Tendong Lho Rum Faat.
- August 9 (Saturday): Raksha Bandhan and Jhulana Purnima in multiple states, including Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.
- August 13 (Wednesday): Imphal (Manipur) — Patriot’s Day.
- August 15 (Friday): All-India closure for Independence Day, along with Parsi New Year (Shahenshahi) and Janmashtami celebrations.
- August 16 (Saturday): Janmashtami (Shravan Vad-8) and Krishna Jayanthi across states such as Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Sikkim, Telangana, Rajasthan, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu & Kashmir, and more.
- August 19 (Tuesday): Agartala (Tripura) — Birthday of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur.
- August 25 (Monday): Guwahati (Assam) — Tirubhav Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva.
- August 27 (Wednesday): Ganesh Chaturthi and related observances in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Gujarat.
- August 28 (Thursday): Bhubaneshwar (Odisha) and Panaji (Goa) — Nuakhai and the second day of Ganesh Chaturthi.
What Can You Do When Banks Are Closed?
Even on holidays, digital banking services remain operational, including net banking, mobile banking, UPI payments, and ATM withdrawals. However, transactions involving instruments covered under the Negotiable Instruments Act, such as cheques and promissory notes, cannot be processed on these days.
