Maruti Suzuki India reported a mixed set of earnings for the first quarter of FY27, reporting strong revenue growth and a profit that surpassed Street estimates. However, rising raw material costs weighed on operating performance, leading to a sharp decline in margins despite healthy demand across domestic and export markets.

The country's largest passenger vehicle maker also expanded its market share during the quarter while continuing to invest in capacity expansion and clean energy projects.

Maruti Suzuki Q1FY27 Financial Performance

Maruti Suzuki reported a standalone net profit of ₹3,352 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, compared with ₹3,758 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Although profit declined year-on-year, it exceeded analysts' estimate of ₹3,264 crore.

Revenue from operations increased 35.9% year-on-year to ₹52,456 crore, broadly matching Street expectations. Net sales also climbed 36% to ₹49,959 crore, driven by healthy demand and improved vehicle realisations.

Net Sales₹49,959 crore+36.0%
EBITDA₹4,311 crore-6.7%

The company attributed the pressure on profitability to rising raw material costs, which accelerated during the quarter amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Operating Margins Decline Despite Strong Sales

While the top line remained healthy, Maruti Suzuki's operating performance disappointed the Street. EBITDA missed market expectations, while the operating margin contracted sharply, highlighting continued cost pressures.

Meanwhile, the automaker witnessed broad-based growth across its key business segments.

Business MetricQ1FY27 YoY Growth
Total Sales Volume+29.3%
Domestic Small Car Sales+34.1%
SUV Sales+44.6%
Exports+28.6%
Domestic Market Share41.2% (+2.3 percentage points)

The increase in volumes was supported by strong consumer demand and higher production capacity.

Capacity Expansion and CBG Investment

Maruti Suzuki said the commissioning of its second manufacturing plant at Kharkhoda helped boost production and supported higher dispatches during the quarter. Dealer inventory remained at around 13 days, indicating healthy retail demand and efficient inventory management.

The company's board also approved the first phase of four Compressed Biogas (CBG) projects involving an investment of ₹561 crore. The automaker said future expansion of its CBG manufacturing plans will depend on the operational performance of these initial projects.

Conclusion

Maruti Suzuki delivered robust revenue growth and exceeded profit expectations in the June quarter, reflecting strong demand and higher vehicle sales. However, rising raw material costs continued to pressure operating margins. Going forward, investors will closely track commodity costs, margin recovery, production ramp-up at the Kharkhoda plant, and the progress of the company's clean energy initiatives.
