Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) has filed a police complaint against Hyderabad-based TEC Aero Devices, alleging that the company submitted forged test reports during the supply of aircraft components for the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mk-1A programme.
According to reports, HAL’s Aircraft Division had issued 18 purchase orders to the supplier starting March 2022 for components used in the Tejas Mk-1A fighter jet project. The issue surfaced after internal reviews of samples, technical documents, and test certifications raised concerns about the authenticity of quality compliance reports submitted by the vendor.
Preliminary findings suggest that multiple test reports submitted by the supplier were not issued by authorised testing agencies, raising concerns over fabrication of critical quality assurance documents. These reports reportedly covered key parameters such as material strength, durability, and safety compliance required for aerospace-grade components.
The alleged discrepancies have triggered a formal investigation, with police registering a case based on HAL’s complaint. The matter is now under detailed scrutiny, and further action will depend on the outcome of the investigation.
The development highlights growing concerns around supply chain integrity in India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem, particularly for high-precision programmes like the Tejas Mk-1A fighter jet. HAL plays a central role in production and integration of the indigenous combat aircraft, which is critical to the Indian Air Force’s modernization plans.
Industry experts note that such incidents, if proven, could lead to tighter compliance frameworks, stronger vendor audits, and enhanced verification mechanisms for defence procurement.
The FIR against TEC Aero Devices underscores the importance of strict quality control in defence manufacturing, where even minor lapses in documentation can have serious operational and safety implications. While investigations are still underway, the case is likely to prompt closer scrutiny of suppliers in the LCA Tejas Mk-1A supply chain and reinforce compliance standards across India’s aerospace sector.
