
Engineers India Limited (EIL) has entered into a significant partnership with the Dangote Group to expand Africa's largest refinery, as per exchange filings.
This collaboration aims to increase the refinery's capacity from 6,50,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day, marking a substantial development in Nigeria's energy sector.
The Dangote Group, a leading conglomerate in Nigeria, has announced plans to expand its refining capacity.
The current capacity of 6,50,000 barrels per day will be increased to 1.4 million barrels per day. This expansion will also include an increase in polypropylene production from 8,30,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) to 24,00,000 TPA.
The project will involve revamping the existing Polypropylene Unit (PPU) and installing an additional PPU of 12,00,000 TPA. Additionally, a 7,50,000 TPA UOP’s Oleflex Unit will be installed to supplement propylene feed to the PPU.
EIL, a premier engineering consultancy under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India, has been chosen as the Project Management Consultant (PMC) and EPCM Consultant for this expansion.
The contract, valued at over $350 million, underscores the trust placed in EIL's engineering and project management capabilities. EIL's involvement in this project highlights its expertise in delivering large-scale projects.
This expansion is a significant step towards reinforcing Nigeria's position as a regional hub for refined petroleum products and petrochemicals.
The increased capacity will reduce reliance on imports and support regional energy security. The project will also contribute to the production of Euro VI grade fuels, aligning with global environmental standards.
