
As per The Cafemutual report, in May 2026, the mutual fund industry saw its average assets under management (AAUM) rise to ₹83.26 lakh crore, up from ₹81.71 lakh crore in April 2026.
This 2% growth occurred despite a reduction in investor inflows.
Equity funds continued to experience positive net inflows, reaching ₹22,908 crore, down from ₹39,617 crore in April 2026.
Flexi cap funds were most popular, though inflows fell to ₹5,176 crore from ₹10,148 crore.
Small cap fund and mid cap funds attracted ₹4,946 crore and ₹4,385 crore respectively, yet both saw over 28% declines.
Large & mid cap funds had net inflows of ₹3,278 crore, while multi cap funds drew ₹2,291 crore.
Debt funds reversed positions with net outflows of ₹96,949 crore in May 2026. Liquid funds saw outflows of ₹29,681 crore compared to a net inflow of ₹1.65 lakh crore in April 2026.
Overnight fund and money market funds also recorded outflows of ₹15,525 crore and ₹24,692 crore respectively.
Hybrid funds attracted inflows amounting to ₹10,831 crore, down from ₹21,367 crore in April 2026. Arbitrage funds, leading this category, gathered ₹5,698 crore.
Multi asset allocation funds managed ₹3,929 crore, and balanced hybrid funds achieved net inflows of ₹655 crore.

Net inflows into passive funds stood at only ₹362 crore compared to ₹20,082 crore in April 2026.
Index funds managed to stay positive with inflows of ₹943 crore, while gold ETFs experienced outflows of ₹725 crore.
Fund of funds investing overseas attracted ₹764 crore, maintaining a positive balance in the passive category.
SIP contributions were recorded at ₹30,954 crore in May 2026, showing a slight decrease from ₹31,115 crore in April 2026.
This indicates growing investor interest in mutual funds as a structured financial strategy.
