Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s top IT exporter, has come under scrutiny after facing multiple complaints over alleged unlawful job terminations, as per the news reports.
Following these grievances, the Pune Labour Commissioner has issued summons to address the matter concerning thousands of affected employees.
TCS Hearing Scheduled on Nov 18, 2025
The Labour Commissioner’s office in Pune has summoned TCS after complaints were submitted by the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES). These complaints revolve around forced resignations, denial of statutory payouts, and abrupt dismissals.
The hearing is scheduled for November 18, 2025, and is expected to address concerns of nearly 12,000 employees reportedly impacted by the restructuring initiative.
Complaints from TCS Employees Across Locations
NITES, which functions as an IT employee rights body, stated that it received several complaints from current and former TCS employees in various locations. About 6,000 individuals at mid-senior levels are believed to have faced layoffs so far, with reports suggesting that the figure may rise to 12,000, forming close to 2% of the company’s total workforce. Concerns primarily include non-payment of dues and coercion into submitting resignations.
Drop in TCS Employee Count Amid AI Restructuring Push
TCS is restructuring operations as part of an artificial intelligence (AI) shift, contributing to steep workforce changes. In the June-September quarter, the total headcount dropped by 19,755, bringing the workforce to 5,93,314 from 6,13,069 from the previous quarter. The company attributes this to realignment efforts through automation and performance optimisation.

Legal Support and Employee Outreach by NITES
NITES continues to provide legal aid to affected workers and is urging others facing similar challenges to raise formal grievances. The organisation assures legal protection and offers guidance in navigating employment rights. The body also emphasises the importance of documentation in cases involving unlawful employment practices.
Conclusion
The issue of layoffs at TCS has prompted official intervention after widespread employee concerns. With a scheduled hearing underway and growing scrutiny, developments are being closely monitored to determine the outcome of these employment disputes.
