CBI Files FIR Against Subhash Chandra Over LIC Housing Finance Loan Fraud Allegations

On Saturday, September 5, 2026, The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered an FIR against Subhash Chandra for allegedly inflating his net worth to obtain loans from Life Insurance Corporation Housing Finance Ltd (LIC HFL), as said by the officials reported on PTI news report.
This action resulted from allegations that these loans, which were later defaulted, caused significant financial loss to the lender.
Allegations of Fraudulent Loan Acquisition
The complaint details that Subhash Chandra used inflated net worth certificates to secure two loans from LIC HFL totaling ₹980 crore.
The first loan, a ₹500 crore facility, was given to Vasant Sagar Properties Pvt Ltd, while the second loan, ₹480 crore, was granted to Digital Subscriber Management and Consultancy Services Pvt Ltd.
Both loans allegedly went into default, contributing to a reported ₹1,322 crore loss for the lender.
Net Worth Certificates Under Question
According to LIC HFL's complaint, the net worth certificates submitted by Chandra were highly questionable. Issued by DIM & Co and later by MPJ & Co, these documents exaggerated his net worth to the purported tune of ₹59,000 crore and ₹40,562 crore, respectively.
Under scrutiny during Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code proceedings, Chandra claimed his actual net worth was much lower than certificate estimates.
CBI's Allegations of Collusion and Misappropriation
The CBI alleges a conspiracy involving Chandra and various borrower entities, including Vasant Sagar Properties and Digital Subscriber Management.
By manipulating documentation to present an inflated net worth, these parties allegedly deceived LIC HFL into granting the substantial loans, leading to misappropriation of funds.

Conclusion
The CBI's FIR against Subhash Chandra highlights severe allegations of misusing inflated net worth certificates to secure ₹980 crore loans from LIC HFL. LIC HFL claims these actions caused a ₹1,322 crore loss, with further investigations into the alleged conspiracy and fund misappropriation ongoing.
