Adani Defence & Aerospace has entered into agreement with Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL) for a period of five years in which the company is to supply 7.62x39 mm small-caliber ammunition needed for AK-203 assault rifle program

The agreement ties ammunition production with the existing rifle manufacture programme in India, both of which will be AMN producing the ammunition and IRRPL focusing on the rifles.

Adani Defence To Supply Ammunition

Under the agreement, Adani Defence will provide the ammunition required for the AK-203 programme for five years. The company said this will give the programme an Indian source of supply and help maintain ammunition availability during the contract period.

Adani Defence has small-calibre ammunition manufacturing capabilities in India, including a facility in Kanpur.

IRRPL Has Contract For 6,01,427 Rifles

IRRPL was incorporated in 2019 under an India-Russia intergovernmental agreement to manufacture AK-203 rifles in India. Its manufacturing facility is located at Korwa in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi district.

The Ministry of Defence signed a contract with IRRPL in December 2021 for 6,01,427 AK-203 rifles, with production planned at the Korwa facility.

The joint venture has Indian shareholders Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited and Munitions India Limited, along with Russian shareholders Concern Kalashnikov and Rosoboronexport.

Rifle And Ammunition Production Linked In India

The new arrangement brings the two key requirements of the AK-203 programme together within India. IRRPL is responsible for rifle production, while Adani Defence will supply locally manufactured ammunition.

According to Adani Defence, the agreement adds to domestic capabilities in the small-arms supply chain and supports the government's Aatmanirbhar Bharat objective in defence manufacturing.
