JSW Steel produced 24.65 lakh tonnes of crude steel in August 2026, up 3% from 23.82 lakh tonnes in August last year.

The monthly numbers were led by the company's Indian operations, which recorded a 4% rise in production.

India Production Reaches 23.87 Lakh Tonnes

Steel production from JSW Steel's Indian operations stood at 23.87 lakh tonnes during the month, compared with 22.95 lakh tonnes a year earlier. Plants in India operated at 88% capacity utilisation in August.

The increase in India more than offset the lower output from the company's US operations in Ohio.

Ohio Plant Records Lower Output

JSW Steel USA - Ohio produced 0.78 lakh tonnes in August, against 0.88 lakh tonnes in the same month last year. That translates into an 11% decline.

Despite the fall in Ohio production, total consolidated output was higher at 24.65 lakh tonnes.

For the year-on-year comparison, JSW Steel has excluded the previous year's production from the Bhushan Power and Steel Limited undertaking. The business was transferred to JSW-JFE Steel Limited in March 2026.

Capacity Expansion Remains Underway

JSW Steel currently has 37.9 MTPA of combined crude steel capacity, including 4.5 MTPA through its JSW-JFE Steel joint venture. The company plans to take this figure to 54.8 MTPA over the next four years.

At Vijayanagar in Karnataka, capacity currently stands at 19.5 MTPA and is being expanded to around 25 MTPA by FY30.

JSW Steel's August production came in higher than a year ago, with Indian operations accounting for most of the output. At the same time, the company continues to add to its steelmaking capacity, including the ongoing expansion at Vijayanagar.
