Ola Electric has started test rides for its vehicles powered by the new 4680 Bharat Cell battery. These rides are being conducted at the company’s flagship stores across India. This is the first time the public will be able to try a vehicle running on the company’s locally developed battery technology.
First Model Using the New Battery
The S1 Pro+ (5.2kWh) is the first scooter fitted with the 4680 Bharat Cell pack. According to the company, this battery has been developed and manufactured in-house. It is to offer a longer riding range, improved performance, and a higher level of safety compared to previous versions.
Certification Update
The 5.2kWh 4680 Bharat Cell recently received ARAI certification. The approval falls under the AIS-156 Amendment 4 standards notified by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. These standards set the current requirements for electric vehicle battery systems in India. The certification allows Ola to deploy the new pack in its commercial products.
Specifications and Key Features
The S1 Pro+ uses a 13-kW motor and can accelerate from 0-40 kmph in 2.1 seconds. The scooter has an IDC range of 320 km in DIY mode. It includes four riding modes, Hyper, Sport, Normal, and Eco. Safety features include dual ABS and disc brakes at the front and rear. The updated model also comes with changes to seating, grab handles, mirrors, and colour options.
Wider Product Range and Pricing
Ola’s portfolio currently covers the S1 Gen 3 scooters, S1 X range, S1 Pro Sport, and the Roadster X motorcycle line. Prices begin at ₹84,999 for the Gen 3 S1 X (2kWh) and go up to ₹1,90,338 for the S1 Pro+ (5.2kWh). Other configurations in the portfolio cover various battery capacities from 2kWh to 5.2kWh.
In its announcement, the company said customers would now be able to experience its new battery technology directly through these test rides at flagship outlets.
