Assam Government Announces Special Leave for Employees Under Matri Pitri Vandana

The Assam government has rolled out a family-focused initiative offering its employees two days of special casual leave this November. The move, part of the Matri Pitri Vandana scheme, aims to encourage workers to dedicate time to their parents and parents-in-law, highlighting the administration’s emphasis on family values.
Key Details of the Leave
According to the official notification, state employees will be able to take leave on 14 November 2025 (Friday) and 15 November 2025 (Saturday) by applying through a dedicated portal set up for the scheme. These 2 days fall just ahead of 16 November (Sunday), effectively giving beneficiaries three consecutive days with their families.
Background of the Scheme
The Matri Pitri Vandana programme was first announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in his 2021 Independence Day address, shortly after he assumed office. Reinforcing that commitment, the Governor of Assam has now formally approved the special leave, with the notification stating: “The Governor of Assam is pleased to allow the State Government employees to avail Special Casual Leave under Matri Pitri Vandana Scheme on 14th November, 2025 (Friday) and 15th November, 2025 (Saturday).”
Conclusion
By institutionalising time off for family bonding, the Assam government has taken a step beyond traditional workplace benefits. Through the Matri Pitri Vandana scheme, it seeks to balance professional commitments with personal values, underlining the importance of intergenerational ties in society.
