Air India and Maldivian have put in place an interline arrangement that allows travellers to move across both airlines using a single ticket, as per news reports.
The agreement covers baggage transfers and coordinated connections, reducing the need for separate bookings while travelling between India and the Maldives or onward to smaller islands.
As part of the pact, Air India passengers will be able to connect from Malé to 16 domestic destinations operated by Maldivian. These include Hanimaadhoo, Gan, Kooddoo, Maafaru, Kulhudhuffushi, Dharavandhoo and Kaadedhdhoo.
The links are available to passengers travelling through Delhi and Mumbai, and to those using Maldivian-operated flights from Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram to Malé and Hanimaadhoo.
Air India continues to run daily flights between Delhi and Malé, which remains the only direct connection between the two capitals. The airline offers more than 55,000 one-way seats each year on this route.
Its network across Europe, Southeast Asia and the Middle East allows international travellers to reach the Maldives with stopovers in India.
For Maldivian, the tie-up gives access to a wider flow of passengers from India’s major hubs. The airline already maintains a domestic network across the atolls, linking several remote islands to Malé.
Schedule coordination under the agreement is intended to support more predictable connections for anyone travelling through both carriers.
Indian nationals do not require a pre-arranged visa to enter the Maldives. A 30-day visa is issued on arrival, subject to travellers holding a passport valid for at least one month, a return or onward ticket, and proof of accommodation.
The IMUGA online traveller declaration must be completed within 96 hours before arrival or departure. Requests for visa extensions can be made after arrival and are subject to approval by immigration authorities.

The interline arrangement brings a single-ticket option and aligned transfers, offering a more consolidated route for travellers heading from India to the Maldives and its domestic islands.
