Australia has initiated registrations for the 2025-26 cycle of the Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-Professionals Scheme (MATES), offering Indian graduates and young professionals a chance to work and contribute to emerging sectors in the country. The application ballot closes on December 14, 2025.
Australia MATES Visa Applications Now Live for 2025-26
The Australian Government has announced the opening of the MATES visa ballot for the 2025-26 financial year. Indian nationals aged 18-30 can register between November 3 and December 14, 2025, via ImmiAccount.
A total of 3,000 places are available under this scheme, which operates through a fair, randomised ballot selection process. Applicants must pay a non-refundable registration fee of AU$25 to enter the ballot.
Eligibility Criteria for Australia MATES Visa Applicants
To qualify for the MATES visa under Subclass 403 (Temporary Work - International Relations), applicants must be aged 18-30 at the time of registration and hold a valid Indian passport. The applicant must be outside Australia when applying and must have graduated within the past 2 years from an approved foreign institution. Required qualifications fall under sectors such as renewable energy, mining, ICT, AI, AgriTech, engineering, and FinTech.
No Employer Sponsorship Required
One of the key advantages of the MATES programme is that it offers flexible work opportunities without employer sponsorship. Successful applicants can gain valuable global experience and contribute to Australia's critical and emerging industries. Proficiency in English and successful completion of health, character, and national security checks are essential components of the selection process.
Background and Strategic Importance
The MATES initiative stems from the Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement signed on May 24, 2023. The scheme is developed to foster bilateral talent exchange between Australia and India while supporting Australia’s economic demand for skilled labour. It also complements Australia's long-term strategy to expand professional mobility and global connections in pivotal sectors.
