Starting November 2025, Aadhaar users will no longer need to visit enrolment centres to update their name, address, mobile number, or date of birth. As per a report by Times of India, these updates will be possible entirely online, making the process quicker and easier. However, biometric updates such as fingerprint and iris scans will still require a visit to Aadhaar centres.

UIDAI's New System to Use Govt Databases

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is working on a new digital system that will pull your Aadhaar data automatically from existing government databases. These include your PAN card, passport, driving licence, ration card, birth certificate, and matriculation mark sheet. This new system will verify your name, address, date of birth, and mobile number without asking you to upload supporting documents.

Additionally, UIDAI is also planning to link electricity bill records to Aadhaar. This step will make it even easier to verify and update address details digitally.

No More Aadhaar Photocopies – Digital Sharing Made Easy

UIDAI is expected to launch a mobile app soon that will include a QR-code-based electronic Aadhaar. This means you’ll no longer need to hand over physical photocopies of your Aadhaar card. Instead, you can share a secure digital or masked Aadhaar version when required. This move is expected to reduce instances of fraud and fake Aadhaar cards significantly.

What the Current Process Looks Like

Right now, Aadhaar users can change their address online, provided their mobile number is already linked to Aadhaar. But for updating name, mobile number, or date of birth, one must still visit an Aadhaar centre in person. This requires booking appointments, carrying physical documents, and often waiting in long queues.

What Will Change From November 2025

Once the new rules are in place in November 2025, these personal updates — name, address, mobile number, and date of birth — can be done completely online from the comfort of your home. You’ll only need to visit an Aadhaar centre for biometric updates like fingerprint or iris scans.

Why These Changes Are Important

For many people, updating Aadhaar is a stressful and time-consuming task. They need to take time off work, fill out forms, carry multiple documents, and wait in lines. With UIDAI's new digital approach, users will save time, effort, and paperwork. It also improves security, helping to fight fraud and misuse of Aadhaar information.

Free Address Updates Until June 2026

If you only need to update your address, UIDAI is currently offering this service free of cost through the myAadhaar portal until June 14, 2026. Just ensure your mobile number is linked with Aadhaar so that you can complete the process using OTP (One-Time Password) verification.

If your mobile number isn’t linked yet, it is strongly recommended to do so now to make the most of the new digital services when they roll out.

Conclusion

UIDAI’s upcoming Aadhaar update system, starting in November 2025, is a major leap toward digital governance and convenience. It will reduce the need for physical paperwork and eliminate the hassle of visiting Aadhaar centres for most updates. With everything becoming accessible online, Aadhaar updates will become faster, safer, and user-friendly, bringing great relief to millions of users across India.
