The National Highways Authority of India has finalised new toll rates for the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway's Karnataka segment. Covering the 71 km route between Hedigenabele and Sundarapalya, the expressway will soon begin toll collection with vehicle-specific charges and improved connectivity infrastructure.
For passenger cars, the toll from Hedigenabele to Sundarapalya is ₹185 one-way and ₹275 round-trip. In the opposite direction, it rises slightly to ₹190 and ₹280, respectively. Light commercial vehicles will be charged ₹295 one-way and ₹445 round-trip towards Sundarapalya, and ₹305 and ₹455 in reverse.
Large vehicles, including trucks and buses, will pay ₹620 for a single trip from Hedigenabele and ₹930 for a round trip, while from Sundarapalya, the cost is ₹635 one-way and ₹955 round-trip.
The NHAI will install four toll plazas at Hedigenabele, Agrahara, Krishnarajapura, and Sundarapalya. Monthly car passes are priced at ₹6,105 for travel towards Sundarapalya and ₹6,260 for the reverse route, covering 50 one-way trips. These passes aim to provide relief for frequent commuters while managing revenue recovery from the newly built road.
Safety remains a concern, particularly with two-wheelers illegally entering through incomplete fencing despite being prohibited. To address this, NHAI is seeking clearance to deploy home guards at toll booths and sensitive locations. Additionally, funds have been allocated to improve connecting rural roads near Sundarapalya, ensuring seamless access to the Bengaluru Kolar Expressway.

While the expressway cuts travel time significantly, bottlenecks near KR Pura remain a complaint. Motorists commuting to KGF report delays of up to 40 minutes before reaching the expressway, urging authorities to prioritise congestion relief in that stretch.
The toll rollout on the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway’s Karnataka stretch introduces standardised charges, improving revenue collection and maintaining infrastructure. However, safety enforcement and last-mile connectivity must be addressed to maximise commuter benefits.
