Tamil Nadu Raises CM Health Insurance Cover to ₹25 Lakh, Aavin Milk Procurement Price to ₹41 Per Litre

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Wednesday announced that the annual cover under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme will increase from ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh, as per The Economic Times news report.
The announcement was made in the State Assembly as part of a set of measures covering healthcare, agriculture, and other areas.
Cancer Care Allocation
The state government has allocated ₹673.44 crore for the Chief Minister’s Cancer Care Mission. This includes ₹471.98 crore for a cancer treatment section at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.
Regional Cancer Centres will be set up at medical colleges in Thanjavur, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tirunelveli and Villupuram. The first centre, at Madurai Rajaji Medical College, will be built at a cost of ₹84 crore.
The government will also provide ₹106.17 crore to government medical college hospitals for robotic surgery, Linear Accelerators, targeted therapy, immunotherapy and other equipment.
Nursing and HPV Screening
Tamil Nadu will spend ₹351 crore on additional seats in nursing, pharmacy and paramedical courses. Seven nursing colleges will be opened, with 660 B.Sc. Nursing seats.
Existing nursing colleges will get 1,925 additional seats. The government will also add 2,778 physiotherapy seats and 735 pharmacy seats.
HPV DNA screening will be carried out for 1.22 lakh women in Dharmapuri, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Perambalur and Ariyalur. The programme has an allocation of ₹8.70 crore.
Aavin Milk Procurement Price
The procurement price paid by Aavin for milk will rise from ₹38 to ₹41 per litre. The government also announced further relief on cooperative farm loans after consultations with agricultural unions held on August 7, 2026.
Farm Loan Waiver
Cooperative farm loans of up to ₹75,000 will receive a full waiver. For loans between ₹75,000 and ₹1 lakh, the waiver will be up to ₹75,000, while loans above ₹1 lakh will receive a waiver of ₹35,000.
The additional relief is expected to cost ₹953.06 crore and cover more than 1.38 lakh farmers. The total waiver amount will reach ₹6,220 crore for 13.34 lakh farmers.
