In a move aimed at improving access to cooking gas and reducing dependency on traditional delivery systems, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has launched India’s first 24x7 LPG ATM in Gurugram.
The automated system, installed in a residential township in Sector 33, Sohna, allows users to exchange empty cylinders for filled ones within minutes. The initiative comes at a time when LPG supply pressures and delays have raised concerns among consumers, prompting demand for quicker and more reliable refill options.
The LPG ATM operates round-the-clock and follows a fully digital and contactless process, making it convenient for users at any time of the day.
Here’s how the system functions:
The process typically takes 2–3 minutes, significantly reducing waiting time compared to conventional booking and delivery methods.
One of the key features of the LPG ATM is the use of composite cylinders, which are lighter and easier to handle than traditional metal cylinders.
In addition to ease of handling, these fibre-based cylinders are corrosion-free, dust-resistant, and considered safer.
The machine has a storage capacity of around 10 cylinders and is equipped with an alert system that notifies nearby agencies when stock levels are low, ensuring timely replenishment.
The LPG ATM initiative reflects a broader effort to integrate technology into fuel distribution and improve last-mile accessibility. By offering instant, self-service refills, the system aims to enhance convenience for urban consumers and reduce reliance on delivery logistics.
If scaled successfully, such automated solutions could play a role in addressing supply bottlenecks and improving efficiency in LPG distribution across cities.

The launch of India’s first 24x7 LPG ATM marks a step towards modernising fuel access with technology-driven solutions. With faster refills, lighter cylinders, and a fully digital process, the initiative has the potential to improve consumer experience, particularly in urban areas facing supply constraints. Wider adoption will depend on how effectively the pilot model is scaled and integrated into the existing LPG distribution network.
