
India and the Netherlands on Saturday upgraded bilateral relations to a strategic partnership and signed 17 agreements covering defence, semiconductors, migration, renewable energy, trade and critical minerals, as per PTI reports.
The agreements were signed following talks in The Hague between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten. The 2 sides also adopted a Strategic Partnership Roadmap for 2026-2030.
Among the agreements signed was a declaration between Tata Electronics and Dutch semiconductor equipment company ASML linked to the semiconductor fabrication facility being developed in Dholera, Gujarat.
India and the Netherlands also agreed to connect the Dutch Semicon Competence Centre with the Indian Semiconductor Mission to support technology development, suppliers and startups in the semiconductor sector.
A separate cooperation arrangement was announced between Eindhoven University of Technology, the University of Twente and 6 Indian institutes, including IISc Bengaluru and IITs in Delhi, Bombay, Madras, Gandhinagar and Guwahati.
The Netherlands remains among India’s largest foreign investors and an important trade partner within the European region.
The roadmap includes proposals for structured interaction between defence establishments of both countries. The discussions covered military cooperation, defence industry partnerships and coordination between research institutions.
Both sides also agreed to increase maritime cooperation through participation in naval exercises and interactions between armed forces under the Indo-Pacific framework.
The joint statement said the countries would examine the feasibility of a Mutual Logistic Support Agreement to support military units during exercises and training activities.
India and the Netherlands supported freedom of navigation and uninterrupted commercial movement through the Strait of Hormuz while opposing restrictive measures affecting maritime trade.
The 2 countries agreed to strengthen cooperation on migration and mobility, including movement of students, researchers and skilled professionals.
The discussions also covered measures to address irregular migration, trafficking, and protection of workers’ rights through transparent visa and mobility processes.

The agreements signed between India and the Netherlands covered sectors including defence, semiconductors, migration, energy and trade cooperation. Both countries also adopted a 5-year roadmap to guide bilateral engagement between 2026 and 2030.
