Himachal Pradesh has revised its vehicle entry tax rates under the Himachal Pradesh Toll Act,1975. The new toll charges will come into effect from April 1,2026, increasing the cost for visitors entering the state by road from neighbouring regions.
The state government has increased entry fees across most vehicle categories. Private cars, jeeps, vans and light motor vehicles will now pay ₹170, up from ₹70. Passenger vehicles with 12+1 seating capacity will also pay ₹170 instead of ₹110.
Mini buses with 32 seats will be charged ₹320 compared to ₹180 earlier. Commercial buses will now pay ₹600, up from ₹320. Construction machinery entering the state will be charged ₹800 instead of ₹570.
Large goods vehicles will pay ₹900, increased from ₹720. Tractor entry fees have been revised to ₹100 from ₹70. However, the rate for double axle bus trucks remains unchanged at ₹570. Vehicles registered within Himachal Pradesh continue to remain exempt from entry tax.
The updated toll rates will be applicable at major entry barriers including Parwanoo and Baddi in Solan district, Mahatpur in Una district, Kandwal in Kangra district, Garamaura in Bilaspur district and Govindghat in Sirmaur district.
The revision comes amid financial pressure on the state following the discontinuation of the Revenue Deficit Grant recommended by the 16th Finance Commission.
The government is focusing on internal resource mobilisation through toll collections, excise income, mining revenue of around ₹300 to ₹350 crore, transport taxes and power sector earnings.

Under the Toll Policy 2026 to 27, toll barriers will be allotted through an e auction system with fixed reserve prices. FASTag based electronic toll collection, CCTV monitoring and digital tracking systems will be introduced in phases. Contractors must install FASTag enabled infrastructure within 15 days of allotment.
Tourism stakeholders have raised concerns about increased travel costs for road visitors. Alongside toll revisions, the state is also continuing auction based allotment of liquor vends with digital monitoring to improve excise and VAT collections.
Himachal Pradesh has increased vehicle entry tax rates effective April 1,2026, impacting private and commercial vehicles entering the state. The revision forms part of broader revenue measures including technology based toll systems and auction driven allocations.
