Haryana Government Approves Full Tax Exemption on EVs Up to ₹30 Lakh

The Haryana Cabinet has approved a complete exemption from motor vehicle tax on the registration of new battery-operated vehicles with an ex-showroom price of up to ₹30 lakh, as per news reports.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and implements an announcement made in the state's 2026-27 Budget.
The exemption will apply to electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, including autos and e-rickshaws, and four-wheelers registered in Haryana.
Higher-Priced EVs Also Covered
Electric vehicles with an ex-showroom price exceeding ₹30 lakh will receive a 50% exemption on motor vehicle tax at the time of registration. The revised structure replaces the earlier 20% rebate that was available on the registration of electric vehicles across categories.
The government has retained the existing 20% rebate on the registration of CNG vehicles. No changes have been made to that concession.
Registration Costs Reduced
The revised tax structure lowers the registration cost for new electric vehicles purchased in the state. The government said the measure is intended to support the adoption of battery-operated vehicles while contributing to lower vehicular emissions over time.
The policy is also expected to address the movement of some vehicle registrations to neighbouring states and Union Territories where registration charges for eligible electric vehicles have been comparatively lower.
Tax Relief Extended to Women Buyers
The Cabinet also approved a separate concession for women purchasing non-transport vehicles. A 1% rebate on motor vehicle tax will be available on vehicles costing up to ₹20 lakh when purchased and registered in a woman's name.
In addition, motor vehicle tax on four-wheelers priced up to ₹6 lakh has been reduced from 5% to 4% if the vehicle is purchased and registered by a woman. According to the state government, the measure is aimed at encouraging vehicle ownership in women's names.
